Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken

Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken  serves up roasted rotisserie chicken cooked in the oven over wood charcoal.  I visited the branch at Morrisville in Cary which is just off Chapel Hill road near the Park West Village shopping area.I tried to get in here for lunch but the place was so packed out that I couldn’t get a seat, so I came back after work and it was much more relaxed.

There are four options; 1/4 Dark meat (leg and thigh), 1/4 White meat (breast and wing), 1/2 a chicken (white and dark), or the whole goddam bird (chopped up).

It is pretty simple to order, you just have to decide how much chicken you can eat, and whether or not you are a fussy chicken eater.

I walked up to the counter where the girl skewered a whole chicken on her pronged fork with one hand, picked up a foot long carving knife with the other hand and looked me in the eye with a stare that said ‘I dare you to just ask for white meat’.

Perhaps I exaggerate for effect, but she knew how to carve that bird up, I had seen her dispatch several already pretty sharp quick and she had a big knife.

I made it easy for everyone and ordered the half chicken …. chop, chop, hack and twist … and then it was on my plate and handed to the lady in charge of the sides,

“Next”, I shuffled down the line….

They suggest to ‘pair our chicken with traditional South American sides – from plantains to yuca fries or black beans’.

I paired mine with a side of green beans and some fries

This was some of the best Rotisserie Chicken that I have had for a while. The crisped skin coated was incredible with a simple peppery rub and a great charred taste. Inside the chicken was so most and juicy that my mouth was struggling to keep up with my knife and fork. It was like my brain had gone into overdrive working my hands at double speed like the coal man on a steam train shovelling in more fuel to stoke the fire in the engine only I was feeding the hunger in my belly.

The green beans were money, cooked perfectly and mixed in some sort of garlic sauce, they were tasty and addictive. The poor old fries had no chance and were way back in third place on the plate. If I mention the spicy green cilantro sauce that they have and maybe the fries come fourth, which is a shame because they too were really quite good.

This is another place that I have found that I plan to come back to.  You can get take out too which could be another great option.
