Today we were hunting for a breakfast in Truro and found ourselves at Grounded a small family run cafe tucked away in plain sight along the narrow New Bridge Street not far from the river.
The place was very cosy and the people very friendly, there was not that much space inside just a few tables and some counter space yet despite that it felt quite homely.
Perhaps it helped that we had grabbed the best table so had the most room to spread out on!
MENU BOARD AT GROUNDED

As I said we were here seeking a breakfast and I found mine in the shape of a Cornish Breakfast comprising of ‘Hogs Pudding, Sausage, Tomato, Bacon, Egg, Mushrooms, Beans and Toast‘ for a quite reasonable price of £8
My dining companion was planning to have a slightly smaller option selecting the Breakfast Roll for £6.25 thinking that it might be less filling. Whether that was to be the case or not you will find out as you read further on 😋
CORNISH BREAKFAST

The Cornish Breakfast was a rather excellent plateful and I was loving everything on the dish. The sausage was thick, meaty, well seasoned with a great porky taste it was also very long. The bacon was decent too pretty thick with the fat nicely crisped up and with good flavour.
My first experience of the Hogs Pudding was most favourable, I do like a black pudding and this delicacy appeared to be a White pudding version, although it was more sausage like in texture and taste it felt much meatier. I could easily get onboard scoffing this on a regular basis if I was a local.
The fried egg was well cooked with a perfect runny yolk, the toast had seen plenty of the toaster for once and the bit part players of beans, tomato, and mushrooms all took their opportunity to shine and get into the mix. Maybe I was just hungrier than normal as I enjoyed every morsel and nothing felt like it was a mere plate filler
Prior to eating this plateful and before writing this post I was not aware what a traditional Cornish Breakfast was made up of, and apart from being cooked in Cornwall, I knew not what it should or should not contain.
As it happens officially my breakfast was missing the key components of fried potato and fried bread. Thinking about it now I would have loved it if both of those had been added to my plate. I do prefer fried potato to a hash brown even though it is often frowned upon by the traditionalists
BREAKFAST ROLL

The Breakfast Roll was a much more substantial bite than expected. I suppose reading the menu board more closely would have given clues that it was going to be since it was filled with ‘Egg, Bacon, Sausage, and Mushrooms’
I was more like half a baguette french stick style than the soft roll we had anticipated but to be honest it needed to be to contain all of that food.
Again great sausage and bacon alongside a perfectly cooked fried egg. It was a winner for sure and despite it being much bigger than expected it was declared to have been a most enjoyable snack.

I really like Grounded it was my sort of place with a simple but well thought out menu. It was very inviting and cosy and if I lived locally I could see myself popping in on a regular basis.
Apart from the breakfast items that we had I was liking the sound of the Artisanal Sandwiches. In particular I was interested in the New York Deli and the Monte Cristo sandwiches and intrigued by the sound of the Margherita Toastie where I was imagining some sort of pizza hybrid effort.
While we ate a few people came in to order sandwiches and judging by the conversations they were clearly regulars getting their standard fix for lunch, one was ordering theirs to be delivered to a nearby pub which sounded like a great idea!
After visiting I checked out their Facebook page and saw that they do an everchanging ‘soup of the day’ and daily specials. The day I am writing this the daily offering is ‘South African Peanut with Carrot and Sweet Potato soup‘ and the special is Mojo Cuban Chicken Tacos, both of which sound delicious.
Looking further along the page I spot one of my all time favorite dishes Cajun Jambalaya! I have to come back now! 🤣😎
Grounded are located at 5 New Bridge Street, Truro, TR1 2AA. If you plan to check them out take a gander on Facebook for those daily specials and soup of the day before you visit!
