Breakfast at Sabzi in Padstow

Today we were checking out the breakfasts at Sabzi in Padstow, one of three middle eastern styled cafes in Cornwall run by former Masterchef quarter-finalist Kate Atlee .

I usually like a traditional fry-up or at the very least a bacon and egg cob, but every so-often I have the urge to shift away a little bit and go outside my comfort zone

I figured this place was going to be a whole different breakfast experience and I was eager to try

THE BREAKFAST MENU

The breakfast menu at Sabzi was small, yet managable and happily there was something there for both of us.

I was having the ‘seasonal breakfast‘ while my dining companion was having the much healthier sounding House granola.

SABZI’S SEASONAL BREAKFAST

The Seasonal Sabzi Breakfast turned out to be a bowl of ‘Middle Eastern style beans with tomatoes, Greek yoghurt, feta, spices served with a fried egg and herbs

It was a “bit like a shakshouka” only less runny and with a lot more beans. It was so delicious, quite hearty and packed full of flavour that I forgot to miss the meat I often like to have with my eggs 🤣

I am not sure I want such a punch of flavour to wake me up every day but I could easily get down with having a dish like this every so often.

My only ask would be that a slice of toasty bread or similar would have been nice just to mop up the juices left over in my bowl. Obviously I used my fingers this time but its not quite the same 😋

HOUSE GRANOLA

The House Granola was described as ‘Seasonal fruit, Greek yoghurt, Cornish Honey’ today’s fruit being slices of apple laid neatly upon the rolled oats and that mound of greek yoghurt.

It was declared to be ‘Filling and Tasty’, the Honey added just enough sweetness alongside the tartness of the apple to balance everything out.

We were here for breakfast but looking online and across social media the everchanging daily menu features and thrives on freshly made lunch boxes filled with salads and dahls.

Just one example being the Sabzi house dahl made up of red lentil, tomato and coconut dahl, and Iranian mint yoghurt.

I can taste the pop of flavours in my mind just reading the description!

Sabzi means ‘green herbs’ in Persian and is featured in the design of the logo as well as being a prominent part of the menu, when we visited the counter was laden with dishes of rice salads all covered in a scattering of fresh herbs.

As I said up top Sabzi in Padstow is one of three middle eastern styled cafes in Cornwall run by former Masterchef quarter-finalist Kate Atlee The other two are in Truro and in Falmouth also serving a menu heavily drawn from her heritage and family mainly an Iranian Middle Eastern style cuisine

I really enjoyed my middle eastern seasonal breakfast and if we stay in Padstow again (which is highly likely) I will be back to try another bowlful

Located at 18 Duke St, Padstow, PL28 8AB you can check Sabzi out on their website and also on their Facebook page and Instagram profile
