Breakfast Buffet at the Carousel in Blackpool

The Carousel Hotel in Blackpool is located towards the South of the main drag down on the front near to the Harrow Place Tram stop. We were just visiting for a couple of days while we were doing the Elmer’s Big Parade one of the Wild in Art trails

We were under no illusions of grandeur when we picked the place, we just wanted somewhere comfortable and reasonably priced where we could rest our heads without any fuss or fanciness

I also wanted somewhere with a breakfast buffet so I could indulge one of my guilty pleasures of scoffing at the trough each morning before we got going for the day.

DAY 1 BREAKFAST 1

Day 1 or rather morning number 1 was the first chance to check out the breakfast buffet in the Cafe Bar 663. It was the usual sort of affair, turn up between 7.30 and 9.30, show your room number and get given a table and then fight your way through the masses to get to the food.

Luckily we grabbed a table for two in the window so we got a nice bit of daylight coming in, there was no view beyond that of the main road where the tram trundles by. That was fine I was just here for some scran

Toast was as per the norm these days being made in one of those toasters that you feed your bread into then wait an age for it to drop through while watching out for furtive fellow diners trying to pinch your slice. You could either let it go through once and get a pale barely browned slice, or twice and get a burnt slice. How hard would it be for them to just toast it out the back for us so its all nicely done?

The fried eggs were plated out so you randomly chose one, some were hard some were soft, mine today was like a flat boiled egg, nothing to write a postcard home about.

The Bacon was mixed and I pulled out a few decently cooked slices, plenty of fat, and a little char. It was decent and quite tasty.

The sausages were on the edge of acceptable catering level, the sort that you know I really love. I liked that the skin was super crisp although inside they were not that gourmet.

The sauce on the beans was a bit thick but they tasted ok. The mushrooms were a bit dark and overcooked for me. I knew that I wouldn’t have them tomorrow 😎🧐

DAY 2 BREAKFAST 2

Day two, morning number 2 and I had learnt my lesson from the previous day swapping out my egg choices from fried to scrambled. This was an excellent decision, even if I do say so myself. The scrambled was very decent, still a little soft and runny, almost creamy, which isn’t bad at all for a buffet. I wished I had spooned more onto my plate.

Meat wise, I stuck with my choice of two sausages, but today I grabbed 3-4 slices of the bacon and got some with extra crispy fat. OK maybe it was a bit greedy but the story I am telling is that I went for two and that was what came out with the grabbers😍

Today they had hash browns so I picked one that looked well cooked which wa a good choice as it was nice a crunchy, no softy soggy filling here.

More pale toast smeared with some sort of marge/butter combo and a rather juicy slice of tomato were the remaining items I chose. A big dollop of brown sauce was added to the plate to assist in masking or rather elevating the flavours on show.

I was actually very happy with my plated choice on this morning and it sustained me well for our walk up to the pier and kept me going until early lunchtime!

OK so perhaps this was not the most inciteful post on the blog this year but it was certainly a fun one to make up. We had a lot of fun in Blackpool looking for Elmer on the Wild in Art Trail and I needed those breakfasts as fuel every day to keep me going!

The Carousel Hotel is located at 663-671 New South Promenade, South Shore, Blackpool, FY4 1RN

It isn’t fancy but it was very comfortable, friendly and welcoming so would recommend it as a base if you are up this way looking for somewhere to stay
