Flipadelphia – Smash Burger action in Blackpool

Hello Blackpool, here we are enjoying all the delights of the seaside, fresh air, a brisk wind, the aroma of fish and chips, and fried onions form the cheap and cheerful burger stalls.

We were here in town on the Elmer’s Big Trail being run by Wild in Art hunting down all the Elephant Art work. All that bimbling about made us jolly hungry so I decided that we needed some top notch burger action.

Enter centre stage, Flipadelphia! Lets check them out!

Flipadelphia are the Smashburger kings of Blackpool and can be found inside Abingdon Street Market where they operate six days a week.

I hear that they are burger royalty around these here parts but that is not all I should tell you that they are also famed for their Hot Dogs and Corn Dogs too.

MENU TIME (BURGERS, HOT DOGS, AND CORN DOGS)

There was a lot of stuff to choose from so I concentrated just on the burger section and even then there was a hell of a lot to take in!

Their SMASH BURGERS all start life as ‘Our signature 2 x 3.5oz steak mince smash patties’ and are served in a Texas Toasted seeded brioche bun, with homemade seasoning ‘ Then I guess they just add as many inventive topping combination with ‘cool sounding’ names to tempt you in

I was quite taken by the the MAC’S DOUBLE CHEESBURGER as they describe it ‘a proper fairground classic’ topped with 4 slices of cheese, ketchup, mustard, diced onion and pickles.
I love that combination of flavours with my burgers, clean and simple and very familar

In the end the JERSEY SMASH BURGER described as “Double patties smashed with onions and fried together, with American cheese and homemade burger sauce “ won my heart. Partly because it was one of the more classical sounding combinations and partly because it sounded like an Oklahoma Onion Smash Burger, a style that many people this side of the pond seem to be replicating at the moment, and a genre I have been keen to try for a while

JERSEY SMASH BURGER

This was a jolly decent burger, another one that was very comforting to eat texture wise, plenty of soft easy bites. The patties were fairly thick for a smash burger but they still had those nice crisp bits on the edge.

The taste of the burger was quite peppery, I as not sure if that was the seasoning of the meat or part of the toppings.

I have to give a special mention for the bun as it was just the right size for the burger perfect for eating without anything falling out just as it should be. A perfect container for all the toppings and juicy patties.

I did like the onion smashed in to the patty but with all the extra grilled onion as well it did kind of takeover the flavour profile which I figure is the whole idea of this burger so I am probably just stating the bleeding obvious.

A bit more burger sauce would have made it perfect perhaps just to counterbalance it all and add some extra zing or sweetness

BURGER AND FRIES

I ordered my burger with a side of fries with the intention of sharing them (I didn’t share much). They were nice crispy fries, decent potato fluff inside and seasoned quite simply.

I wasn’t sure that there were enough to keep me filled up but I had a pint of beer as well so I was feeling quite satisfied belly wise by the end of the meal

CLOSE UP OF THE BURGER

Another highlight was the molten cheese oozing across the top of each patty. It had been applied generously just as it always should be, and I was happy that it was properly melted into a nice cheese blanket on top of both burger patties! 😎

INSIDE THE BURGER

Finally lets have a little look inside the bun and the burger with this cross section of meaty goodness (as if you haven’t seen enough of the burger action already)

I love that you get a good view of the meat and cheese melting into the top bun as the juices do their work. The highlight being a close up of all that steak meat ground into those rather delicious burger patties.

Did we need another picture? No? well we got one anyway 😎😂

Flipadelphia were an excellent find in and amongst some great looking street food vendors at the Abingdon Street Market and if I am back up this way again I will definitely pop back for another one or two. I also kind of want a hot dog too and probably a corn dog as well! I love a smash burger and heartily recommend checking these guys out!

Flipadelphia can be found inside the Abingdon Street Market Food Hall which is located at 16-20 Abingdon Street, Blackpool, FY1 1DE
