Breakfast at Poppins in Worcester

Poppins in Worcester is one of many in the popular chain and like many they have been family run for several generations. I didn’t know that when we picked it as a place to grab breakfast while staying in Worcester. I just liked the look of the old school cafe menu and figured I would be able to get a classic basic breakfast, hopefully full on Greasy Spoon level

BREAKFAST MENU AT POPPINS

There is a fairly huge laminated menu at Poppins featuring a wide range of breakfast possibilities and more. I’ve posted some more pictures at the end of the blog, and you can find them all online as well (check here)

For the purpose of this post lets just have a gander at the cooked breakfast section which was what I was most keen on ordering from

I was looking for a mid sized breakfast as I was hoping to be eating more later as we explored the area. Sadly that meant that the GIANT breakfast with 3 of bacon, sausage, eggs and hash browns was out of the window straight away!

I settled for the BIG breakfast as that only had one of the egg, bacon, and sausage , but more importantly for me included black pudding and didn’t have a hash brown on it!

I had briefly contemplated the CHEF’s BREAKFAST which seemed ‘Cheffy’ as it came with scrambled eggs. I might have that at home but when out and about I want the treat of the fried egg with runny yolk!

BIG BREAKFAST AT POPPINS

The BIG BREAKFAST was described on the menu as ‘Bacon, fried egg, sausage, beans, half a tomato, black pudding, mushrooms, toast and butter‘ and costs £8.49

The bacon seemingly seared down on the hot plate was decent, the sausage was very crispy which was probably for the best as it wasn’t particular gourmet. I enjoyed the flavour of the black pudding but it was a little soft perhaps needed a little longer in the pan.

I wasn’t sure how the mushrooms had been prepared but I will say that they were very juicy and I liked them, the half tomato had been cooked all the way through which was pleasing I enjoyed the sweet juices that were released as I cut in.

The egg yolk was still runny, the white properly set so that was good, the beans were the usual plate filler and as always for me went straight onto the slightly pale toast

The Big breakfast was not perhaps as ‘BIG’ as some other places, I would suggest that it is more of a ‘Regular’ sized breakfast in reality, but seeing as they have a Mega and a Giant breakfast on the menu I reckon that it must fits in the right place on the size chart 😎

FAVOURITE FIVE BREAKFAST AT POPPINS

The Favourite Five breakfast is as you may have guessed a breakfast composed of just 5 items. The menu offering ‘Bacon, sausage, fried egg, tomato or beans, and toast‘ for £5.99

It seems to be be a very small plate of food and not one that I would choose unless I was just looking for a lite bite. Luckily that was what my dining companion was after so it worked out OK for them.

Overall we both enjoyed eating here even though it didn’t look amazing on the plate. I think this was one for the taste buds not the eyes. Lets be honest it is supposed to be food not an instagram opportunity 🤣even I despise myself on occasion with that unnecessary need to take a picture of everything I eat 😎

This branch of Poppins is located at 18 The Foregate, Worcester, WR1 3QF and is one of 35 across the country. You can check this particular cafe out on their website and all of them out on the Poppins website

They do also have social media links, check out their Facebook page for Worcester and their Worcester Instagram too
