Food For Thought – Top Smashburger action in Teignmouth

This week we were enjoying some Top Smashburger action in Teignmouth from Food for Thought who are resident in the kitchen at Malloys on Teignmouth St

This was our first port of call in town on recommendation from @petebrooksbank with whom I have spent an inordinate amount of time corresponding on all things burger over the years

Last year we were trying out some other local burger action at Rock Bottom (read more here) which were good enough but I had heard that Food for Thought or F4T were the real deal

BURGER MENU AT FOOD FOR THOUGHT

So here we were finally in the pub and ordering the classic offering “IF IT AIN’T BROKE” burger for £10.

Listed on the menu as ‘2 smashed patties topped with classic burger cheese, bacon, house pickled gherkins & onions, ketchup and sweet mustard’ it sounded like the perfect burger combination

I almost ordered the Peppercorn Encore for £12 as the ‘2 onion smashed patties‘ with ‘smoked cheese‘ and ‘homemade french peppercorn sauce‘ sounded like an interesting riff on the Classic Oklahoma burger

Not today though were were all getting the ‘IF IT AINT BROKE‘, – “Three please with some cheesy chips”

SMASH BURGER ACTION – ‘IF IT AINT BROKE’

Lets get this burger party started. Two moist and juicy patties with strips of bacon and dripping molten cheese blankets set the scene on the burger stage.

Cheesy Meaty mouthfuls incoming

Our tastebuds are treated to the classic sweet and tangy combination of the ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions.

Tried, Tested and Tasted with much enjoyment

The kicker was a somewhat familiar yet indiscernible flavour that I could not work out. It was totally lifting this burger up a notch but I could not place it.

I asked but they would not reveal (damn it!🤣) no matter though after the event I trawled through their feed to find a reference to ‘slow roasted garlic confit’ so I reckon that could be the mystery solved?

IF IT AINT BROKE SMASHBURGER

This was a superb Smashburger and I am slightly jealous of my compatriot that I cannot have one whenever I choose unless I choose to drive for 3-4 hours to scoff one 🤣🧐😂

It’s a damn good reason to come down to Teignmouth for a holiday and a visit anyway

Sadly I didn’t get to come back in for another burger as the F4T team were off on their well earned holidays the next day.

To be honest that was probably a good thing for my burgeoning waistline as I had my eyes on the F4T special called the ‘Hangover Cure‘ which sounded like my kind of breakfast burger!

‘A smashed patty topped with burger cheese, bacon, hash brown, black pudding. ketchup and a fried egg‘ almost sounds like perfection.

Ditch the Hash Brown for a slice of fried bread and a bit of brown sauce instead of the ketchup and I would be in Nirvana 😎🤣🧐

Food For Thought (F4T) in partnership with Teign St Kitchen can been found operating out of the kitchen of Molloys who are at 1 Teign St, Teignmouth TQ14 8EA on a regular basis.

You should check out their Facebook page and Instagram profile for times and menu, or just pop down the pub to have a look and a munch!

Molloys is a great pub too, a bit local but very friendly, by the third night I was being offered a loyalty card. I am not sure if that said more about my consumption of the local ales or excellent customer service? I suspect a combination of the two 😎🤣
