Curry Goat from the Pasta Box in Plymouth Market

The Pasta Box in Plymouth Market was the last place that I expected to find a Goat Curry but when we visited that was exactly what we found.

Located inside the market the Pasta Box offers up pasta dishes as you might expect but they also like to create a whole load of fusion dishes, perhaps a slightly Italian take on classic dishes from other parts of the culinary world

Inside the menu we found that Curry Goat Stew described in their own words as an ‘Italian fusion style goat stew curry with side of white rice and slaw’

On the same page they were offering a Milanese Chicken Curry and Italian Fusion or IFusion Style Curry chicken with Polenta. Really all quite intriguing!

CURRY GOAT STEW

This was a very attractive looking bowl of food. It looked rustic and very homely, it was also massive and much bigger portion than I had anticipated!

Big chunks of stewed Goat meat on the bone, chunks of carrot and potato, along with chopped up tomato, scallions, a vibrant coleslaw and a big pile of white rice.

As Goat Curries go this was a very tasty one, not quite as traditional as your typical Caribbean effort and certainly not as spicy, but it was packed out with flavour.

The meat was plentiful, soft and tender and falling off the bone, I was surprised by the generous portion but very grateful. I loved the big pieces of potato and carrot in and amongst bowl just liked stews me Mum and me Nan would make.

The cooling coleslaw and sweet tomato helped counter the spices, crunch added from the scattering of chopped greens gave freshness, and the gravy was light and gentle.

There was just enough white rice to soak up all the stock and juices and even though it was an extra carb with the spuds I was glad that it was there as a bit of plain rice was welcomed to balance out with the curry flavours

We were both very happy with our Goat Curries, it is one of my favourite dishes to eat anyway, and it was a really unexpected treat and a bonus to find one here at the Pasta Box

You can find the Pasta Box at Stall 55, 63, 71 in the middle of Plymouth Market in erm Plymouth on Cornwall Street PL1 1PS.

They have an Instagram profile where you can see some of the dishes that they have on offer and you can check out the menu on Just Eats and Deliveroo (locally)
