Stars licensed cafe in Buxton is one of many cafes in the town and ended up being the one that we picked out on our trip to grab some breakfast.
They describe themselves as a ‘Local independent licensed cafe. Quality that won’t cost a lot’.
They seem to make a point of the ‘licensed‘ part and I guess for some that may be a important factor when picking your spot for some grub?
Not for me, I am more about the value for money and a decent plate of food
We had been lookng for somewhere to grab some breakfast and all over town kept seeing these pink boards advertising ‘Stars’ many quite a distance away from it’s location over on Spring Gardens.
I suppose it worked though as we found ourselves walking all the way from the Pavilion Gardens to find them.
THE MENU OPTIONS OF INTEREST

On the menu they offer a BIG breakfast for £9.95, a MEDIUM breakfast for £8.35 and a Build Your Own Bap or Breakfast for £5.95.
When I am faced with a choice like this I always try to work out the best value.
Is it worth me paying the extra £1.60 to upgrade from a Medium to a Large?
Or can I get everything I want for £5.95 and just 5 items. Just how hungry am I?
When it came down to it, the only difference I could spot between the BIG and the MEDIUM was an extra sausage and an extra slice of bacon.
Not knowing what the sausage was going to be like I played it safe and ordered the Medium breakfast of ‘Bacon, sausage, fried egg, mushrooms, beans, black pudding, hash brown, tomatoes and toast’
THE MEDIUM BREAKFAST

The Medium Breakfast seemed to be a fairly substantial plateful, it wasn’t particularly attractive on the eyes but I wasn’t here for the instagram I was here to get fed.
Most of the ‘plating’ crimes were on show, beans spooned on top of the egg, on top of the bacon, and tomato spilling out undeterred in it’s bid to join in on the egg pile on.
The sausage tasted well, firm and meaty, the bacon had been crisped up very nicely, perfect rendering of the fat. The toast was well buttered, somewhat let down by the inability to cut it evenly but lets move on.
It was a shame that my egg was broken, and the hash brown was a bit on the soggy side. The beans and the tomatoes were running wild on the plate and any hope or thoughts of keeping them seperate from the rest of the food was dashed
It was good to get a slice of black pudding at this pricepoint and I appreciated that the mushrooms had been kept whole. I did also get another spoonful of them later as the lady passed by with the pot to give me a few more
BUILD YOUR OWN BREAKFAST

My partner in dine had opted to Build their Own breakfast choosing Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Black Pudding, Beans and Toast as their 5 items, which was pretty good since that is six items and somehow they ended up with two fried eggs. Was I jealous of that extra egg? Of course! I was livid! (lol just kidding).
The beans had still been poured over the eggs, pudding, and bacon without a care in the world. This must be a Buxton thing, such daring plating flying in the face of all that is supposed to happen on a classic fry up 🤣🤣😘
I reckon that in the end the 5 item breakfast was the way to go as I didn’t particularly enjoy my tomato or my hash brown and I could have lived without the mushrooms
All joking aside, Stars was a fairly decent place to get breakfast. Looking around the place it was pretty popular but if I wanted a pint with my scoff I would have been happier getting one in Spoons
Did I say that that there was a man with a parrot? Not that it is relevant but it stuck in my mind 😎🧐🤣
