Cafe Dolce on Lord Street in Southport is a pretty good place to grab some breakfast. We had spotted the place when we walked past while doing the ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ Wild in Art Trail over the weekend.
I noted that they did breakfasts but really it was the chalkboard offering up Spam burgers, and Liver and Onions that had grabbed my attention as then I knew it wasn’t going to be a just your generic cafe experience.

The All Day Breakfast Menu looked good with a Full English of ‘Cumberland Sausage, 2 Bacon, 2 Eggs, Mushrooms, Beans, Tomato, 2 has Brown & Toast‘ on offer for £11. I opted to swap my tomatoes for a slice of black pudding and it coast me like about 50p more
A smaller breakfast with a normal sausage, half the amount of hash brown, bacon and eggs, and without the mushrooms was £8.50. For the price difference I felt it was better value getting the larger Full English Plate
FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST

The Full English was most enjoyable as a whole, but some things on the plate were better than others. I liked the flavour and texture of the Cumberland Sausage, but it was a bit small and didn’t look appealing. The bacon needed cooking longer to crisp up the fat and the eggs needs cooking less so that the yolk was runnier. Win some lose some.
BREAKFAST

The beans needed to be freed from the ramekin but perhaps I should have poured them more carefully on the plate. The mushrooms were plentiful and still quite juicy, I quite liked them
The Hash Browns were a bit soggy and I would personally like them crispier. The Toast was perfect, just the right shade of brown and well buttered
The black pudding tasted nice, but perhaps like other items could have been cooked a bit more? but hey what do I know, we all like stuff done differently and all in all it was a good filling breakfast
PICK AND MIX BREAKFAST MENU

There was an option to go ‘Pick n Mix‘ on your breakfast ordering items individually and we did try to make up our ideal plate to see if we could beat the system and the Full English.
For the record I would have wanted 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 Bacon, Black Pudding, Beans and Toast so that would have cost me £11.60 so it was a close call and maybe one to consider for another day

Even though perhaps my thoughts read a bit picky, I did enjoy eating at Cafe Dolce, and if in the area I would come back again. Next time I would be wanting to try one of their Spam Burgers , just because I could!
I also read that they do a Roast Dinner on a Sunday, in their own words
“Come Sunday, we transform into a haven of hearty roasts, cooked to perfection with the freshest ingredients. Imagine melt-in-your-mouth roast beef with Yorkshire pudding fluffier than a summer cloud, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal veg bursting with flavor, and gravy that’s pure comfort in a jug.”
Now that does sound good, does it not?
You can find Cafe Dolce at 409 Lord Street in Southport PR9 0AG, located right in the middle of all the action on the main shopping street. Check them out on their Facebook Page
