Do you like a Carvery? I will be honest and say that generally I am not a fan. It’s like a Sunday Roast edition of the Chinese All you can eat buffet with the main aim being to pile your plate high and eat as much as you can to get the most for your money
Anyway roll forwards to Mothers Day and the quest to find a Sunday Dinner in a strange town where I have no clues or ideas where to go 🧐🤣
Wandering along Lord Street in Southport, the place with the most eateries in town, and I stumble across The Bold Hotel with signs outside advertising roast dinner Yorkshire Pudding wraps. Potential?

I pop inside and find they are a carvery and the mission to feed me Mum with a Sunday Roast while on our holidays is back on!
Prices were a lot higher than the last time I had a carvery but they were akin with the prices at most pubs I scoff one at so I wasn’t too distraught 🤣
We went up to the counter to check out the plate sizes and opted for a Regular(two meats) at £14 and a Large (3 meats) at £16. I won’t ask you to guess who was having the Large!

Meat options were Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, and Roast ham / gammon joint. I had all three and then the usual get what you want vegetable wise
For me that was parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, and roast spuds then just Yorkshire Pudding, sausages, stuffing ball, and lashings of gravy
As usual once you get all the vegetables piled onto the plate you cannot see the meat anymore, but trust me it was under there somewhere
I am surprised to find myself saying that the best slices of meat were of the Turkey. It was very moisty and juicy, and cut quite thickly. I am not usually a fan of this bird especially at Xmas but maybe that is because we don’t get such a massive one and here at the carvery they do a have one big enough to cut decent slices off

The beef was not as pink as I like but it hardly ever is when you eat out in such places. Unless you get here for the first cuts it will have been sitting around a while and I suspect I am not in the majority liking it so rare
The Yorkshire pudding wasn’t bad, it had risen well and had a hole big enough to fill up with gravy. The roast spuds were big too, and I liked that they were fairly well crisped up
The other veg was a bit hit and miss, some very soft and some a little too al dente but to be fair it is often the same at my house when I have cooked it

Verdict. We had a good decent filling plate of food. There were ups and downs, the beef was tough but tasty, the turkey (normally my least fave) was juicy and pretty damn good, the ham spot on. Spuds a bit over, some veg a bit cold some a bit mushy some perfect, your typical buffet. Gravy I loved
Decent pint of beer, full bellies and everyone happy all thing considered
Was it as good as my mums roast or any half arsed one I make? Er well no BUT it was much better than many carveries I have endured in the past and yes I would come back and recommend
