Crafty Burger at St Martins in Leicester was our port of call for lunch this weekend while we were in town hunting down Elephants on the “Stomp around Leicester” Wild in Art Trail
The lunchtime mission being to seek a decent burger and I was very hopeful when I spotted this place online before we came to town
On their website it says “Crafty is the secret-not-secret pop-up burger restaurant, run every week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, by the team behind St Martin’s Coffee and Kitchen“
I figured I needed this in my life so I had ‘accidently deliberately’ maneuvererd our way along the trail so that we just happened to be here around lunch
CRAFTY ST MARTINS MENU

I was expecting a lot more burger action on the menu but really there was only the one option worthy of consideration and that was the CRAFTY CHEESBURGER and FRIES.
They did have SHROOM burger and a MOVING MOUNTAINs option but neither of those was going to fill my soul with overtly meaty joy.
Edit Note: Since this visit I looked online and see that they had a lot more burger options. Perhaps we just looked at the wrong menu when we visited 😢
CRAFTY CHEESEBURGER

First up was that burger, officially the CRAFTY CHEESEBURGER was described on the menu as “Double American cheese, chopped onion, crispy onions, caramelised onions, lettuce, pickles, crafty sauce” for £14.50
What you get is a burger bun filled with Big juicy meaty patties of dry aged March House Farm beef topped with lots of molten cheese and a interesting mix of onions served three ways
BURGER CLOSE UP

It is a pretty solid bite with a lot of meat! I wasn’t 100% sold on all of the onions, although it was a very clever mix it did kind of overpower everything. I reckon that I would have been happier if the chopped onions were left out of the party
The Cheese was well melted on top of the burger patty, not quite a cheese blanket but enough to make it a good cheeseburger. I did like the mayo slipped in between the cheese and the bun, kind of a funky addition.
It is a good bread bun, big enough to hold the burger filling and stay intact, it was a nice soft chew as well, toasted on each side which is something I like in a burger, apparently baked daily from Milners Bakery in Blaby
All in all a decent burger, more of an old school meaty effort as opposed to the current smashburger trend, it was rather nice to have just a patty in a bun for a change
