Daikoku Ramen Japanese Noodle Bar at Gloucester Docks is a very decent spot for a bit of noodle action. They have two outlet in the area, the other one being over at Stroud and they style themselves as being ‘passionate about serving authentic Japanese ramen made with the freshest ingredients.’
We were in Town doing the Wild In Art – Lions at Large Art trail and had pre-planned a visit to Daikoku Ramen while in the area, mainly because I cannot resist any bowl of noodles
This joint is just one of several restaurants located at the popular Gloucester Food Dock but to be honest apart from Chuck that were offering up some tasty sounding burgers, it was the only place I had eyes for
PORK RAMEN MENU

My choice was a bowl of Pork Ramen more specifically the PORK HAKATA listed on the menu as ‘Pork Chashu, Bamboo Shoot, Pickled Ginger, White Pepper Wood Ear Fungus, Spring Onion, Marinated Egg’ for £15
PORK HAKATA

I was very happy that there was a Copious amount of pork in the bowl. I fished out at least 4 decent sized slices which seemed a very generous portion. I was also loving the soft egg although the yolk was not as golden as I like as the seasoning and broth had dulled it a little in the bowl

The highlights here were the noodles, lots of them and they had a good chew to them as all homemade noodles should. I also loved the very creamy and very porky broth, it often looks a bit muddied but that is just part of the style.
RICE BOWL MENU

From the rice bowl section of the menu we picked out the KARAAGE DON, which was very simply described as ‘Japanese style fried chicken, rice salad, spicy Mayo’ for £13.95
Initially we were just going to share a portion of the fried chicken by itself for £11.50 but I reckoned it would be better as a meal with the rice and you know what? I was right
KARAAGE DON BOWL

This was a very decent portion, plenty of chicken, moist and juicy with an excellent crisp coating. The pot of spicy Mayo balanced really well with the salty dipping sauce and we found it best to eat both together as one should lol
The plain rice helped to counter all the fried stuff and even the scattering of green leaves added a nice bit of freshness

Daikoku Ramen is a pretty good spot for a meal right by the Gloucester Docks that I definitely recommend and would come again if staying around the area
It is quite a small spot inside, quite cosy and intimate, but outside there is a good sized terrace for eating at which could be a lot livelier if eating out as a group

You can check them out on their website and also through their Instagram profile and Facebook Page
