The Cod End Fish and Chip restaurant in Newquay is a pretty popular spot. The staff are warm and welcoming and were having good banter with the punters.
Located on Cliff Road, this chippy with a 60 seater restaurant certainly lives up to expectation with the view from the dining area

The Menu cover depicts an almost tropical vision of the bay out of the window

The reality was almost as good with the late afternoon sun coming through the window keeping us warm as we looked down at the waves crashing gently onto the beach
MENU

The Specials menu was tricking me out, I was trying to work out if it was a better deal to get the Cod Special for £11.50 that was a Medium Cod & Chips with Mushy Peas or whether to get the Haddock and Chips off the main menu for £10 and then add in a portion of mushy peas.
In the end it worked out the same so we got one of each, why make it so confusing lol!
COD & CHIPS with MUSHY PEAS

I quite liked the battered cod, it was a little greasy on the outside but the fish inside was cooked well, juicy and moist, perhaps a little greyer than I would like. It was piping hot having been cooked fresh to order which is always the best preference
I was not that keen on the chips, there was a lot of black bits in the potato which I found a little off putting. For the money I have to be fair and say that the portion was quite generous and there was lot of chips on that plate
The mushy peas were quite thick and claggy, vibrant and green, they did have a nice crunch but I do like my peas a bit smoother
HADDOCK AND CHIPS WITH MUSHY PEAS

The verdict on the Haddock and Chips was pretty similar, lots of chips, not the most appealing of plates and the batter was crunchy but greasy. Still for the money it is good value and we were here to get fed and full not really worrying to much about what it was

This place certainly do offer great value and I was sorely tempted to return one morning to try their breakfast after seeing the board offering an English Breakfast of 2 bacon, 2 sausages, egg, 2 hash browns. mushrooms, tomato, beans, toast and a tea for £10
Sadly that was not to be while we were on this trip, but I left it here on my blog to remind me next time I am staying over in Newquay!

The Cod End Fish and Chip Restaurant is located at 9 Cliff Road in Newquay, Cornwall, TR7 2NE, just across the way from the Aldi and the Travelodge where we were staying
