Upstairs at the Cheeseworks in a fabulous little spot serving up small bites, sandwiches, toasties, and platters all sourced from the super Cheeseworks deli downstairs
Now I love a Cheese Toastie or a Grilled Cheese sandwich depending on which side of the pond you hail from and while I confess my favourite combination is one filled with cheese and beans, I am fully on board with poshing it up every so often with ones filled with higher quality ingredients and perhaps ones with more culinary thought.
TOASTIE MENU

Today’s plan was to pick out a couple of the excellent sounding combinations from the Toastie section of the menu and then share them. There were four on offer so sadly two were going to miss out on this occasion, but we played fair and contemplated them all equally even though it was a pretty easy choice.
Harkin’s Hot Take Toastie got an instant pick just because it had chorizo in it (yes I can be bought that easily). The Garlic Mushroom Toastie was dismissed purely on the grounds of all the garlic. I love garlic but didn’t fancy it today
Then it was a straight choice between The Full Works Toastie and the Dorset Toastie. The Dorset lost out because of the mustard, gosh we sound so picky reading this back as I write up the post from my notes
Anyway as they say lets have a look at what we did eat 🧐😎
THE FULL WORKS TOASTIE

First up was the THE FULL WORKS TOASTIE described on the menu as “Four Cheese Blend: Raclette, Worcester Hop, Lincolnshire Poacher & Comte, Buttered Leeks, onion & garlic” for £8
First thoughts were how nicely charred it was, now some people might comment it looks burnt, but for me this is grilled toastie perfection, give me a bit of a crisp and crunchy bite, especially with sourdough.
THE FULL WORKS TOASTIE CLOSE UP

I loved just how much cheese there was inside this sandwich, that it was properly melted and that it was oozing out of the slice. I honestly am not an expert enough in cheese blending but what they have done here with their four cheese mixture was very harmonious to the taste buds
The buttered leeks within the Full Works were particularly good. Great idea too, I often do that with a Mac and Cheese so no surprise it worked well in the Toastie ❤️
HARKIN’S HOT TAKE TOASTIE

Next up was the HARKIN’S HOT TAKE TOASTIE billed as a combination of the “Four Cheese Blend, Tracklements Chilli Jam, Cotswold Curer Chorizo “ for £9
Now this one was as expected a combo with a lot more punch to the tastebuds and I was glad that I had eaten my slice of the Full Works toastie before I chowed down on this one.
HARKIN’S HOT TAKE TOASTIE CLOSE UP

The Chorizo slices in the Harkin’s Hot Take toastie were an excellent bit of charcuterie. Sweet and spicy with a decent kick of heat. The spice and jam overpower the subtle charms of the four cheese blend a little, but if you love chorizo in your toasted cheese sandwiches you probably won’t mind
Once again as with the first sandwich a great crust on the buttered toast with a lovely crunch to the bite which really added some texture to the experience
MORE MENU

Loads of other good looking stuff on the menu, with sharing boards of cheese and meats sitting alongside sandwiches, quiche and jacket potatoes
Decent prices as well considering the quality of produce on offer!

I must not end the post before I eugolise about the Cheese Shop itself filled wall to wall with cheese from all over the place, probably something for every taste and palate, at least for the cheese officiando. I would have bought a lot but was worried about stinking out the Air BNB fridge (trust me we have done that before)

The Cheeseworks and Upstairs at the Cheeseworks can be found at 5 Regent Street in Cheltenham (unsurprisingly one on top of the other), GL50 1HE
