Towan Blystra Wetherspoons in Newquay – Curry Night

It isn’t all glamour in the MyFood Hunt world and I for one am happy about that. Today it seemed to be Slim Pickings food wise as we searched for some sustenance and so it was to pass that I found myself in Towan Blystra, the Local Wetherspoons In Newquay partaking of Thursday Curry Night

The pub was rammed, tables laden with empty plates and glasses but thanks to the Wetherspoons App we were able to find one and place an order without fighting through the masses to the bar

The beer is cheap enough here and comes in a fancy branded glass, happily ours came with the meal

CURRY CLUB MENU

I haven’t done a Spoons Curry for ages and my first thought was how they also have widened their range, one part perhaps a sign of the times menu wise where the Katsu Curry has become a staple expectation down the pub and features here with a whole section to itself. There was also a small degree of fanciness with an offering of a Sri Lankan prawn and fish curry highlighted on the menu.

CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA MEAL

I didn’t come to Spoons for fancy so it was Two Chicken Tikka Massala meals with rice, naan, poppadum, and a pint for £12.95 each. I knew what we were getting ourselves into and I had no shame about it

Times moved on it used to be dirt cheap to eat in the spoons but no longer it seems I almost contemplated leaving in search of a more traditional local curry house but I was hungry and not yet feeling belligerent enough to turn my nose up at some curry club scoffage

I knew what we were getting ourselves into and I had no shame about it

Chicken Tikka Masala

To be fair it’s a nice curry if you like your basic curry with lots of sauce to dip your naan in. It’s not like cooking your own or going down the local Indian restaurant but it filled a hole

The Naan and Poppadom are not the greatest and the rice was minimal at best, but together there was enough Carb on the plate to fill me up, at least with a couple of pints anyway

This Wetherspoons was extremely popular, absolutely packed out with punters, as we went in the aroma of curry from adjacent tables set the scene for the theme of the night.

Am I coming back? well probably not but as it was just over the road from the local Travelodge I envisage that it will not be too worried about lack of punters. It is going to fill it’s brief without worry

Located at 12-16 Cliff Road in Newquay, The Towan Blystra is a classic Wetherspoons fully geared up for this popular Coastal Town
