Caffe Rojano by Paul Ainsworth has been on my Padstow Bucket list for quite a while.
Over the last few years we have often based ourselves in Padstow and while I have enjoyed some of the eateries at the cheaper end of the market scoffing local pasties, pubs, and fish and chips. In recent times I sometimes yearned for more
In the past we had eaten our way through most of Rick Steins offerings, but I had not crossed the threshold of any of Paul Ainsworth’s joints and I was very keen to try, and of the options Caffe Rojana seemed fairly affordable for a treat
CAFFE ROJANA MENU

We picked out the two dishes off the main menu that I have had my eyes on for the last few weeks since I booked and those were the Cornish Cod and the Cornish Pork Chop
On a different day I could have easily picked one of the pasta dishes, the Ox Cheek Ragout and the Sobrasada – Tamworth pork shoulder ragu both with Malfadine pasta as both sounded excellent
But my heart and mind had been sold already to the Pork Chops and the Cod so destiny was already set in motion as we ordered
CORNISH COD

CORNISH COD £28 – Butter roasted Cod, smoked paprika pancetta & chorizo Tuscan bean stew, samphire, basil pesto
The Cornish Cod was a really tasty dish, perfectly cooked fish, thick and meaty cut.
The Tuscan bean stew was everything we hoped for with a rich tomato and pepper sauce mixed with sweet and tangy chorizo and smoky bacon.
I could and would eat this all day long and every day if you served it to me 😍
CORNISH PORK CHOP – 3 SAUCES

CORNISH PORK CHOP £32 – Philip Warren dry aged pork chop & crackling, Chimichurri, gravy, Granny Smith’s apple
I loved the pork especially the crackling, the mix of Chimichurri and Gravy was excellent and the Apple once mixed in was a great accompaniment
It wasn’t the cheapest dish, but to be fair there was a hell of a lot of pork on that plate. I know it wasn’t billed as a sharing plate but you know what it could easily have fed two of us.
Having said that I was very happy and most willing to scoff it all down by myself!
Sides wise we shared a plate of the Tenderstem Broccoli £8.50 and of the House fries
CAFE ROJANO FRIES

The bowl of CAFE ROJANO FRIES £6 – seaweed, rosemary, Parmesan, triple mustard mayonnaise was quiet excellent too, perhaps a little rich with all that cheese but who cares.
I would be most happy to be given this as a snack any time and secretly I would have liked them along with the burger (Shhhh)
I enjoyed eating the pork with the fries and broccoli but to be honest a side of new or roasted potatoes would have gone better, but as I said they really were GOOD fries

Overall I was really happy we finally made it here and glad we pushed the boat out a little more as it was well worth it 😎
I will look forward to next year when we pass down this way again and perhaps another visit
