Fat Mondays  were at Penzance Food Festival  in Penlee Park this weekend serving up some totally fabulous Smashburgers action

I saw them here at Penzance Food Festival last year. Didn’t eat one and have regretted it ever since. So here I was making amends to my food soul. This was going to be a Job done and a job done well!

It all seems so simple the chalkboard offering up the Fat Mondays Double Cheeseburger

“2 Dry Aged Cornish Beef Patties, Triple American Cheese, House made Potato bun, FM sauce, House Pickles, Diced white onions” for £8.50

“Two DOUBLE CHEESEBURGERS please!”

Maybe there was more on the menu, maybe I just didn’t bother looking! I knew what we wanted so we ordered swiftly and joined the waiting throng for our foos

Fat Mondays have really hit it out of the park with their Backyard Style Burgers

It’s all so simple and uncomplicated, two beef patties smashed onto the grill, covered in a perfect molten cheese blanket slipped between one of the best potato buns I have chomped into for quite some time.

Simple accompaniments of sauce, pickle and diced onion add the gentle tang and sharpness to counter richness from the meaty juices from the beef patties and the creaminess of the cheese. Classic stuff

I love a cheeseburger and I love a good Smashburger so it seems I was in the right place today!

Chowing down into the burger you are finding a lot of meat and a lot of cheese. Exacatly what you are looking for when you order a cheeseburger.

I waited a year to grab one of these burgers and do you know what? I might well wait another year and come back to the Food Festival in 2026 just to get another one!

Fat Mondays don’t really seem to give too much away on their website and socials which all adds a little bit to the mystery of these burger slingers.

Their site says

“Backyard style burgers. Dry aged beef. Hand cut beef tallow fries. Buns, pickles, sauces all made in-house. Leave no detail overlooked.”
