Breakfast at Victoria Coffee House in Moreton in Marsh

Last time we stopped off in Moreton in Marsh we were dining at Charlottes Cafe (read more here) but sadly that place was no more so we averted our attention a few steps down the road to the Victoria Coffee House which seemed to be offering some kind of breakfast situation that we were happy to investigate.

BREAKFAST MENU

The breakfast menu had plenty of options, breakfast baps for us common folk and posher stuff like Eggs Benedict and Salmon Bagels for the range rover crowd.

They seem to like stuff on toast here at the Victoria, eggs makes sense but they also were insisting on plating your breakfast on toast as well with mini and mega sized options.

Obviously a growing middle aged lad like myself was going to be ordering the Mega Breakfast ON TOAST 😎😍

MEGA BREAKFAST ON TOAST

I had the Mega Breakfast which was ‘Toast topped with Fried Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Baked Beans, Grilled Tomato, Mushrooms and Hash Browns‘ for £9.95. It was essentially just like getting a Full English only stuck on top of a slice of toast.

It was a very decent plate of food, two well cooked eggs with runny yolk, tasty and crispy bacon always welcomed in my heart. The hash browns were big which was the main thing but perhaps a little soggy and the beans as usual are there just as a plate filler and to add moisture to the affair

BREAKFAST

The sausages deserve special mention as they were some of the best I have had on a breakfast plate for some time. Nice crisped skin, plenty of solid meat and a good mix of herbs to add some flavour.

The mushrooms were interesting as they had been cooked and mixed with some fried onion. Perhaps slightly unusual for breakfast but I quite liked the combination of flavours. It reminded me of diner breakfasts in the states where it often was a mix of peppers too.

All in all a very decent feed and I was pretty happy, perhaps if I had the foresight I would have quickly pulled the toast out from under the stack before I ate as it was to end up just being a big soggy slice. That was the only failing in the experience though, every thing else on the plate was good.

The specials board looked good as well and if I had not been set on breakfast I could have easily found something to nosh on. In fact before I had found the breakfast menu I had almost settled on the Omelette Special of ‘3 free range eggs, filled with Chorizo, Red Leicester, and Tomato’ because it was the closest thing to brekkie that I saw.

Now that I was full and replete and could think more clearly about food I suspect I would be drawn towards the Homemade Quiche even though it doesn’t come with chips just salad and crisps. I do like to make a pretence of considering the lighter and healthier option on occasion

Victoria Coffee House is located at 16 High Street, Moreton in Marsh, GL56 0AF on the main road through the village. There is ample parking in the car park outside than runs along the green so pretty easy to stop off as you pass through.

You can check the place out on their website, they do have a Facebook page and a Twitter feed but neither seem to be very active
