Today we were enjoying some Top level fryup action from Maria’s Market Cafe in Borough Market. It’s been on my breakfast bucket list for years and finally I managed to get down here to scoff one.
I did almost get a fry up back in 2017, when I scoffed a Egg, Bacon, and Black Pudding breakfast sandwich which was quite delightful (read more here). At the time I really wanted the Full English and vowed to return. Eight years later I finally have!
FRY UP MENU AT MARIA’S CAFE

One glance at the menu and I saw what I was after. there really was only one choice and that was the BOROUGH MARKET ENGLISH top of the list on the FRY UPS section .
The menu lists it as
Egg, Bacon, Sausage, Bubble, Beans, Grilled Tomato, Mushrooms, Black Pudding for £14.50.
Now that seems a lot of money to me for a Fry-Up but hey we are in London and this place is iconic so I guess you expect a little bit more of an outlay
BOROUGH MARKET ENGLISH

Wow, this was one good looking plate of food and one far more substantial than I had expected. So yes there was a Fried Egg, but then 3 slices of bacon, and 2 sausages, plus the biggest slice of Bubble and Squeak I have encountered at a cafe, and yep this was a feast worthy of the money.
Add to that a sliced of black pudding, pile of mushrooms, half a grilled tomato, and half a tin of backed beans, and I already knew I would only be eating once today!
The excellent bubble was being used perfectly as a barrier to contain beans, the two plump meaty sausages, crispy slices of bacon and a well fried egg were all highlights on this plate
I could not fault anything and I was very happy to finally get my chops around one of Maria’s Fry-Ups!

Maria’s Cafe can be found under the arched roof of Borough Market at 9 Stoney St, London SE1 9AA. It really is a bit of an institution having been here since 1961 serving up breakfasts and traditional British fare to the good people at the market.
