Jar Bar in Barnsley can be found up in the Food Court of the Glass House right at the end of the row of vendors in the corner by the window.
Billed as the Balkan Experience they specialise in huge gyros and sandwiches packed out with flavours from the Balkan region
The Glass House website describe them thus;
“Balkan inspired food. Serving up a delicious range of food all inspired from their European roots.
Freshly barbecued meats in a pitta, Greek gyros stuffed with chips, burgers bursting with flavour, pretzel hoagies with a sweet edge, halloumi fries you won’t want to share, refreshing salads and sharing platters packed with goodies – food heaven!”
HOUSE MADE SAUSAGE
I opted for the House Made Sausage billed as – Traditional balkan spicy sausage served with signature jb19 sauce, fries, pickled salad and pitta.
I asked the lady behind the counter which was the best sausage they had and she recommended this one if I like Paprika, excellent! I do, it is one of my favourite spices!
The texture of their sausage is a bit crumbly, meaty, moist, well flavoured, certainly paprika forwards and slightly spicy. I was very happy to get a crisp seared skin and pleasantly surprised at just how much sausage I got on my plate, a good few links.
The pitta breads were perfect, good toasty colour, lightly charred and fluffy inside, again 4 pieces was more than enough.
I enjoyed the soft peppers and I really loved the JN 19 Sauce – ‘our signature sauce made with aromatic curry and turmeric, blended with creamy mayo and Greek yoghurt for a rich, balanced finish’
It was the perfect accompaniment! I also got chips on the plate, but honestly I didn’t really need them!
CHICKEN GYROS
My partners in dine both ordered the Chicken Gyro – ‘Greek kebab, served with fresh lettuce, tomato, red onion, tzatziki and fries with the signature jb19 sauce’
This was a massive Gyro packed out with so much chicken I wondered how they turn a profit! The chicken was well seasoned and also was perfect blended with a bit of that jb19 sauce
The sandwiches came with a good trayful of the fries which were crisp and golden. Freshly cut and seasoned with a hint of spice they were a most welcome addition to the meal
These Gyro sandwiches seemed to be one of the more popular dishes being ordered from Jar bar while we were there and it was easy to see why. Great value for money and top quality food
I really enjoyed the offerings from Jar Bar in the Glass House Food Court in Barnsley.
The Balkan sausage was excellent, some of the best tasting bangers I have had for ages.
If I lived up here or a bit closer I would be a regular customer and I am not just saying that. I reckon this was one of the top ten street food bites I ate this year.
