Full Moon Oyster Bar – Shrimp and Oyster Po-Boy

Full Moon Oyster Bar

The Full Moon Oyster Bar & Kitchen in Morrisville is one of five locations across North Carolina.

The website describes the chain as;

“a popular watering hole and seafood grill located in Clemmons, NC, Southern Pines, NC, Morrisville, NC, Jamestown, NC, and Concord, NC”… “a few hours from the coast but still boasting some of the freshest seafood anywhere”

“Homemade recipes handed down over the years make our soups and original entrees some of the best in the southeast. Like the traditional steam houses down on our coast, we have learned that Fresh Oysters and other shellfish delights, are best prepared using hot steam only to preserve the salty good freshness we love.”

It does sound good doesn’t it?

When I walked in and saw their chalkboard some of those website words started to form a semblance of reality both in my mind and also in actuality.

I liked that they list where their fresh oysters come from, even though I have never eaten a shucked one,

I liked that they told me what fresh fish was available, I also liked that they have a ‘wine down wednesday’ but that is a ‘whole different’ area to think about.

Lets focus on the food!

Shrimp and Oyster Po-Boy

Shrimp and Oyster PoBoy at Full Moon Oyster Bar

I came in here to the Full Moon Oyster Bar specifically to get a Po-Boy, they describe theirs as “A classic with the full moon touch! Fried oysters, shrimp or half and half. Served on leidenheimer’s authentic french bread with lettuce and tomato.”

Now I hadn’t ever had one with Fried Oysters so I just went with it, even though the only ones I had eaten before were all from the heart of the sandwich in New Orleans, I was willing to see if this worked.

The PoBoy of my memories were from Johnny’s PoBoys  in New Orleans where I wrote about them on the blog at “Johnny’s PoBoys – Time for a Shrimp PoBoy”

When I cut it in half to take a ‘Look inside’ it was even better news as I could see that it was packed with those crispy crunch covered oysters and shrimp. The bread is filled with air pockets that make it so light and fresh.  I  was loving every bite! One yummy po-boy indeed.

Mac n Cheese on the side

Mac n Cheese at Full Moon

All sandwiches and burgers are served with a choice of potato salad, pasta salad, mac ‘n cheese or chips! I went for the Mac n Cheese option which turned out to be an exceptional choice. It arrived at the table still bubbling away as I think it had just been pulled straight from the oven or grill.

It is a really good mac n cheese, packed with cheesiness, lots of soft pasta and a lovely topping that is just baked enough to give it that pull apart chewy cheesey bite. On of the best around

I really enjoyed the food at the Full Moon Oyster Bar and made a mental note to come back to try them again. I have my eyes and stomach on their Fish and Chips Friday and possibly on one of their Burgers too
