This week we were in Plymouth staying by the Royal William Yard and taking advantage of some of the nearby restaurants for our daily sustenance
The Seco Lounge is one of many ‘lounges’ up and down the country, there are three in this area, with one at the Barbican and one at the Broadway
It took me a while to realise that there was also one a short walk away from my home in West Bridgford on the avenue where I had often popped in for brunch! It really is a small world sometimes
Wherever you are the menu seems to be more or less the same, but I had never ventured further than the brunch section before so here we are sort of ‘trying something new’
MAINS MENU

The Main section of the menu was bang on trend with Birria Taco’s, Louisiana Fried Chicken and Nasi Goreng all common features these days it seems
I fancied the grill and my partners in dine a curry and the tacos, so it looked like we were covering plenty of the menu in our planned scoffage
MEDITERRANEAN GRILL

I ordered the MEDITERRANEAN GRILL for myself, listed on the menu as – Harissa-marinated chicken skewers, lamb kofte, smoky prawn & tomato skewer served with paprika fries, salad, flatbread and mint yoghurt
I really fancied a load of meat and this sounded like a lot of meat, priced up at £21.50 I did wonder if it was a sharing platter. I was hungry though so I just took a chance and tried not to look greedy
I liked the flavours with the mint and harissa mixed up together. The Chicken was moist and plentiful, the Lamb kofta was juicy, sadly the prawns were a bit dry but they tasted ok. It was sort of hard to differentiate between any of the meats, it was very harissa forward.
On a personal note the Salad was great because it was just rocket leaves and red onion, together with that mint yoghurt it was my kind of greenage🤪
The paprika fries were fairly decent and were shared on the table while I was using the flatbread to make up my own little Mediterranean wraps with sauce and salad.
This was well worth the outlay of just over 20 quid
PANANG CURRY WITH THAI MARINATED CHICKEN

One of the gang ordered the PANANG CURRY WITH THAI MARINATED CHICKEN described on the menu as Spicy aromatic coconut Thai curry with coriander rice, sesame seeds and Thai marinated chicken for £14.95
The verdict on this one was that it was a very big bowlful, quite spicy in the end with a heat that slowly built up as you ate. Bonus being that there was plenty of chicken!
BIRRIA TACOS WITH SPICY BRISKET AND BIRRIA DIP

Our last team member ordered the BIRRIA TACOS WITH SPICY BRISKET AND BIRRIA DIP – Folded soft tacos with melted cheese, sweetcorn & cheddar fritters, tortilla chips, guacamole, and tomato salsa
We came back a few days later and I also ordered this myself as it has looked so good
The cheesy meaty filled tacos were a nice soft chewy bite. The sort that tastes great and that you know isn’t good for your waistline. The spicy brisket was tender and shredded thickly so had a good texture. All the other bits had the pretence of being the salad option but really they are the picky bits adding more calories 😇
I really liked the little fritters witch were just a bite sized treat. The salsa was very thick and saucy and was mopped up with bits of taco and with some of those tortilla chips, as was the creamy guacamole
This dish was great value at £14.95 and could be a great option for sharing it you just wanted a little snack with your drinks
TAPAS BOARD DEAL

Finally for sheer snackage we took a last meal from the Tapas section of the menu which has a tagline saying;
‘Made for sharing’, but also has a Tapas Board Meal offer for £14.50 which says ‘Your Choice of 3).
Forget the sharing part that sound like a meal deal for one!
The chosen 3 dishes were the LOUSIANA FRIED CHICKEN WITH CHIPOTLE MAYO (Lightly-spiced chicken tenders with Chipotle Mayo), the DUCK PANCAKES (with cucumber, spring onions and hoisin sauce), and the THAI FISHCAKES (Prawn & Salmon fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce, sesame seeds and coriander)
All chosen for enjoyment as opposed to making a coherent meal that makes sense to the tastebuds
None of them looked that amazing or pretty but dos that matter if they all taste really good?

Our Life on Holidays down at the Royal William Yard in Plymouth was filled with nights like this. Choosing convenience by eating at the nearby chains, so nothing too fancy, yet nice to sit out to eat in the cooler evening air with a slight breeze incoming over the water.
We were not the only ones, every night we were here the place was packed out and getting a table was a challenge in itself, we came twice so hey it wasn’t too hard.
