Today’s Breakfast was eaten sitting under the canopy alongside Shelley and Sarah’s in Cambridge Market. A local institution this establishment has been around since the fifties fuelling the general public and market dwellers with breakfast fodder

According to their website, the current incumbents Shelley and Sarah with Jim have been running the van since 2004 and and the third generation to have traded here on the market

I do love a local market breakfast from a van and even better when they have tables outside and serve it up on a proper plate

BREAKFAST MENU

I ordered the Breakfast of Egg, Bacon, Sausage, Tomato, Beans and Toast for £8.20 which at first I thought was a bit expensive even though this is Cambridge. Once I found out that you get 2 Sausages, 2 slices of bacon, and 2 eggs it was seeming much more like a bargain so I added on a couple of slices of black pudding for an extra quid.

Although there was only one breakfast listed on the menu here at Shelley and Sarahs, they told me that I could whatever we wanted and they would work price out, but I was happy enough with this deal today

ENGLISH BREAKFAST

I really liked the thick meaty sausage apparently hand made to their own recipe from a local butcher. I wasn’t sure what was going on portion wise, I seemed to have some really huge bangers cut into pieces. My dining companion was the same, so either we were looking at foot long sausages that couldn’t fit on the grill or we were splitting two big ones between us.

Presentation wise I was happy to see the fried eggs swimming unfettered in the tomato and bean meld. There was no sausage barrier employed here, if anything the eggs were separator and the meat was doing it’s own thing.

The Black pudding was well flavoured and cooked well, soft and creamy. I was pleasantly surprised to get two slices for my £1 outlay, that was total bonus

The bacon fat was rendered very nicely, the meat crisped up on the hot plate and the rasher cut thickly.

The toast was buttered well and was cut from a loaf which was a nice touch, instead of being a generic white slice. It was a good colour and did an excellent job mopping up bean and tomato juices

This was a very decent breakfast indeed, excellent quality and very good value. It seemed to have plenty of regular punters stopping by for teas, coffees, and breakfast cobs, locals and tradesman alike plus the odd tourists like ourselves

I was happy to read that Shelley and Sarahs were family run, third generation and I hope that they keep going to the next generation too.

I for one will certainly come back again next time we find ourselves in Cambridge
