Dreamy Cafe & Resturant in Rotherham was an ‘interesting’ spot to partake of breakfast on our latest trip up to Yorkshire looking for Lions and Lionessess on the Pride of Yorkshire Trail

It wasn’t on any of my lists of must eat at spots but it was the first place we found as we stumbled away from the Tram stop looking for breakfast.

We had made an executive decision to ‘not piss around looking for the perfect spot’ and to eat at the first place we found offering breakfast

The sign outside described a meal deal of Breakfast and a Coffee (or Tea) for £7 which did sound quite reasonable.

Once inside I had a few doubts as it was hard to pin down the owner as to what was in the breakfast but in the end just took a chance as we were hungry and in need of sustenance for the day

THE BREAKFAST AS IT COMES

I had the breakfast, as it came, and it turned out to be a little different from your classic greasy spoon affair.

Two sausages, catering level at best, did their best to stem the flow of the bean and tomato meld across the plate.

There was a good pile of bacon, an undetermined number of rashers, that was decent in flavour, but perhaps could have benefitted from a little more cooking out of the fat.

The Hash Brown was golden in colour and did it’s job despite fighting it out on the plate for as the potato element with a side of sweet potato fries (unusual)

The Fried egg had been cooked a little too long so that the yolk was no longer runny, which was a shame, and their was a small pile of fried mushroom lurking alongside the buttered or spreaded toast.

It did the principal job that was intended in providing fuel for the day and it was all quite filling

My partner in dine had attempted to negotiate a more recognisable fry up just asking for bacon, egg, and sausage, some beans and some toast 

It was the same price and to be honest was just as decent a feed volume wise. There was more bacon than I got but suffered from the same issue of the fat not being rendered

The sausages were a little more crisp and were taking a bath in the beans, acting as an excellent barrier from the egg.

The fried eggs, of which there were two, were a little scraggy, and while the white was perfect the yolks were not runny.

It did the job and it was a good portion and value for money

Located at 5 Frederick Street, Rotherham S60 1QN, the Dreamy Café and Restaurant was a fairly friendly spot, it was good value, perhaps not one for breakfast as it is not quite a classic fry-up
