Day 1 Meal 2
Waffle House in Morrisville
Waffle House on airport boulevard just off route 40 is one of the places in walking distance of my hotel while I am lodging in Morrisville North Carolina. I know it is a franchise chain but hey a guy has to eat so lets take this place just as we find it, on face value.
It is cheap and cheerful, it is down to earth, and it is my kind of place. I know what it is, they know what they are, so lets cut to the chase, get in there and order some food.
The staff were very friendly just a couple of people were on shift, one guy to take my order and one lady at the hot plate to cook it up. I walked in about 5pm and the place was empty but I know that there are open 24 hours so I guess it might be different story at other times of the day. For me though at this moment it was working out pretty well.
I wasn’t blown away by the pictures on the laminated menu, but I did like the sounds of what was on offer. I think that it is refreshing that they post pictures that are not dressed up like an art project.
I had no high expectations and so wasn’t set up for a disappointment.
I do like to see is how honest the menu is compared to the truth of what is served up, so lets have a look then.
Texas Bacon Patty Melt with Hashbrowns
I ordered the Texas Bacon Patty Melt with Hashbrowns and I was pleased to see that the reality matched visually.
It never looked that pretty to start off with so I was happy that it was pretty honest.
Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t building myself up for a fall, I was just not pretending.
Close up on the Patty Melt
Lets just take a closer look so we can see what is inside this sandwich and talk about the most important thing which was ‘Did it taste nice?’
The answer was that it did, it was a sandwich of food comfort, and it was kind of a bit of a guilty pleasure that I had forgotten about. Essentially as far as I can tell or know a Patty Melt is basically a hamburger inside a grilled cheese sandwich?
It is a bit of a beast, grilled Texas toast, full of buttery badness and buttery delightfulness at the same time, surround a juicy hamburger. Other bedfellows in the sandwich are the ever popular crispy bacon and plenty of molten dripping cheese. OMG it tastes so good and I have no shame in declaring my enjoyment of this bite of food.
