Bojangles is one of the places near to my lodging’s on airport boulevard. I knew virtually nothing about the place but the bright orange sign drew me in from the road as I drove by. Once inside I learnt that they served a lot of chicken; fried chicken, crispy chicken, chicken tenders, chicken thigh, chicken leg. They did other stuff but I was blinded by all the pictures of chicken up on the menu board. This was actually quite fortuitous as I really fancied me some fried chicken.
I googled them and found that;
“Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits is a Southeastern regional chain of fast food restaurants based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The restaurant’s signature dishes include dirty rice (sausage and seasoned rice), chicken supremes (chicken strips), and cajun pinto beans along with its signature biscuits and sweetened iced tea.”
Cajun Chicken Sandwich, Mac n Cheese and an Iced Tea.
Unsurprising ‘Chicken and Biscuits’ seemed to be the most prevalent item up on the menu board and apparently they might be famous too. I went against the name and selected away from the biscuit by ordering one of their Cajun Chicken Sandwiches with a side of Mac n Cheese and an Iced Tea.
It doesn’t look that pretty or gourmet on the tray, probably for the reason that it is not supposed to be pretty and gourmet. It is supposed to be a good old tray filled full of comforting fast food and as it happens it was.
Before I mention the food I have to say that I love the bright yellow containers and the Bojangles logo, it made me smile on a gloomy day.
The Cajun sandwich was basically just a crispy coated piece of chicken in a soft bun with some lettuce, very simple, but you know what? I really quite liked it. The chicken was moist and tender, and I liked the spicy Cajun seasoned coating. I also quite enjoyed that pot of luminous mac n cheese, I could feel it sticking to my ribs as I spooned it out of the bright yellow pot.
If I am honest I probably would not be afraid to suggest picking up a chicken sandwich to any passer by.
It does the job when you need a bit of a fast food hit
