Fish and Chips at Tonys in Skegness

Tonys Fish and Chips in Skegness has long been our chosen Chippy when we visit this part of the coast. The only reason being that it used to be my Uncle Tonys favourite and we carried on the tradition purely because of the name. Seems simple enough but whether it was a good idea I don’t know

Having said that the last time I wrote about chips in Skegness we were dining next door at Harry Ramsbottom and to be honest I did feel a bit of a chippy traitor (read more here)

Today though we were back with family tradition visiting Tony’s

More recently I have been driven towards Cod at the chippy as I don’t like the skin on my Haddock but today l couldn’t resist the bargain prices on the Specials board where they were offering Fresh Haddock & chips with free peas for £5.95

HADDOCK, CHIPS AND MUSHY PEAS

The Haddock, Chips and Mushy peas looked great piled up in the tray sitting in front of me on the Park Bench but that was a bit deceptive.

Individually everything was great, lovely looking golden batter on my fish, lots of big thick cut crispy chips, and a bit pile of creamy vibrant green mushy peas

My only problem was with the way that it was served, all piled up it was steaming away so that the chips became soggy as did the bottom bit of batter on the fish

So while it was enjoyable to start it all got a bit mushy wet and too moist by the end. In hindsight it would have been better to have got it wrapped up so that I could have eaten it all individually

The positive was that we were at the coast eating Fish and Chips in the park breathing in the sea air and the vapours of salt and vinegar from the tray on my lap. You can’t really bottle that experience so while I moan about some soggy chips my belly didn’t complain about how it was being filled up 😍😎🤣🤣

Tony’s Fish and Chips is located in Unit 1 on the Grand Parade in Skegness PE25 2UN
