The Old Tea House is located on Polmorla Road in the heart of Wadebridge and is a very friendly and welcoming cafe where you can get your fix of tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches.
We have been in a few times over the last couple of years but until now just for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Today though we were looking, or rather I was looking for a spot of lunch and had remembered that this place had a rather nice menu of sandwiches.

I was happy to see the Chalkboard on the corner as we neared the tearoom was offering ‘Fresh Local Crab sandwiches’ as that was exactly what I had in my mind. I didn’t need any further prompt to get myself in their quick smart
CRAB SANDWICH, CRISPS AND SALAD

I had the Local Crab sandwich which came with a side of crisps, coleslaw, and nice fresh green mixed salad. It looked to be a decent plateful for the money and I was feeling a little smug with my choice for once
Like all the sandwiches was offered with a choice of multi-seed or white bread. For once I chose multi-seed over my usual default choice of white, and I was really glad that I did. The bread was excellent and really added to the sandwich (even though it should be all about the crab, right?)
LOCAL CRAB SANDWICH

There was plenty of crab meat inside the sandwich and it was all mixed with a light mayonnaise so that you kept the delicate flavors of the crab.
I liked that they had also added some crisp slices of iceberg into the mix as that added a bit more of a crunch and a bite to the sandwich. I don’t get my hands on a crab sarnie that often and I was pretty happy with this one at the Old Teahouse in Wadebridge
CREAM TEA MENU

You cannot really come to Cornwall without having a Cornish Cream Tea so it felt that it would have been somewhat remiss not to have taken the opportunity to check one out here at the Old Teahouse.
The Cornish Cream Tea comprising ‘Two homemade scones with Cornish jam, clotted cream and a pot of Cornish tea for one‘ sounded to be just right., and £6.50 sounded like a good price
You could have had one without the tea for a pound less, but then I would have been thirsty. You could also just get one scone, but who would do that once you have seen that you can get two!
CORNISH CREAM TEA

I have to say that this is probably the nicest and best presented Cornish Cream Tea that I have ever seen. I really hate it when you order one and it is a scone with a plastic pot of cream and jam.
Here at the Teahouse, not only was it on a lovely china plate, but the cream and jam came in individual pots. They were offering a choice of fruit scone or plain scone, or one of each if you liked. So we had one of each. I think that they also had some cheese scones too but that would probably be wrong
It was all excellent, freshly baked scones, thick luscious Cornish jam and a pot of clotted cream to spread on as you so chose. The Dusting of icing sugar over the top and the slices of strawberries just added a little more the the joyous scene on the table
Yes this was a really good Cornish Cream Tea and it will be tough to find one as good now that the bar has been set so high for us.

I really like visiting the Old Teahouse in Wadebridge and we have always enjoyed their cakes. Today even with the Covid restrictions in place it was still a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to sit inside. They were even measuring your temperature when you went it, which is really good I have not seen that many places.
They are located at 6 Polmorla Rd, Wadebridge, PL27 7ND and you can check them out on their Instagram profile where there are plenty of nice pictures of cakes to be seen.
